Mardi has a rich relationship with nature that has evolved and deepened throughout her life. In the last 20 years she’s dedicated much of her time to exploring the landscape in the White Mountains (unfortunately coined “The Whites” by New Englanders) on Abenaki land. In that time Mardi summited all forty-eight 4,000 footers multiple times, often as the only Black person on the mountain. She has experienced great joy from communing with this landscape, but the overwhelmingly white hiking community that is so seeped in white supremacy and colonialism complicates her experiences. Recently, she has focused on creating more opportunities for Black folks to join her in appreciating this magnificent wilderness. Enjoying this land with her community has been a liberating balm that has strengthened her sense of identity as an outdoorswoman.

“Mardi & the whites” is a peek into Mardi’s relationship with the White Mountains, the great outdoors, and the community that surrounds them; Above all, it’s a celebration of Black liberation in the wild.

A few winters back Amie Engerbretson and her dad were showing off their dance moves at the Cowboy bar in Jackson, WY. Their footwork got fancy as they started throwing inverted dance moves. Within moments the bouncer promptly kicked them out saying “No boots over the brim!” A film concept was born that day. Boots Over Brim follows Amie, a professional skier and classically trained dancer, as she dips in and out of a dreamy western dance scene and ski lines in Wyoming, Nevada, and Alaska.

Breaking all the rules of a classic ski film, Boots Over Brim pairs two of Amie’s great loves with a soundtrack exclusively set to the electrifying country music of Paul Cauthen.

Skiing is an art. Full of connection, grace, touch and style. To Amie, skiing is a dance.

Greenspit is a route of mythical status. Bolted and “defaced” as some traditionalists would say with green hangers (hence the route’s name), the route thwarted all suitors until the legendary swiss trad ace Didier Berthod chopped the bolts and made the first ascent placing natural pro.

For Babsi Zangerl, Greenspit was a challenge always waiting in the wings ... until thanks to Covid, the fall of 2020 found her home in Europe and not on El Cap.

Babsi spent last fall in Italy’s famed Valle dell’Orco where she racked up and committed to the steep roof crack. And after enduring the runouts, whips, and painful hand jams, Babsi became the first woman to succeed on Greenspit.

Any Oregon Sunday is a documentary snapshot of the diverse community of women riders we have here in Oregon. Tiffany rides across the state on her Triumph Bonneville meeting Kylee Sweeten, a champion trials bike rider in the Oregon High Desert; Ashley Volner, a versatile dune and moto racer out at the Dunes; and Jada Noriyuki, a dirt bike rider at Brown’s Camp in the Tillamook Forest. Although each rider’s background and story is different they all do it for the love of the sport and desire to immerse themselves in the beauty of Oregon.
